Stormy weather forecast across Germany following heat spell
The hot and sunny weather which got the week started across Germany is on the way out, thunderstorms and heavy rain are forecast to arrive in the early afternoon on Wednesday.
Thunderstorms forecast for July 10 in Germany
After a brief heat spell which saw temperatures reach 34 degrees celsius in Baden-Württemberg and 30 degrees in Berlin, thunderstorms are set to arrive.
From early afternoon Wednesday, the “Elke” low-pressure system will arrive from the west, bringing stormy weather and rain.
So far, the only weather warning designated by the German Weather Service (DWD) is a level one warning for the regions stretching north from Erfurt to the south of Schwerin.
But locals elsewhere, from Stuttgart to Dresden, Berlin and Rostock should also expect temperatures of between 24 and 26 degrees accompanied by thunder, lightning and heavy rain.
Weather will clear slightly by July 11
Once the storms have passed around midnight on Wednesday, warm but muggy weather is forecast to return on July 11. Temperatures of between 24 and 30 degrees are expected across the country.
Thunderstorms will return to the southwest and even up to Dresden on Friday, with temperatures of between 22 and 27 degrees expected.
