Taco Bell and Krispy Kreme to open first shops in Germany

Taco Bell and Krispy Kreme to open first shops in Germany

US franchises Taco Bell and Krispy Kreme have announced that they will open multiple shops across Berlin.

Taco Bell to open 10 shops in Berlin

American fast food chain Taco Bell and doughnut franchise Krispy Kreme are to set up shop in Berlin, the companies have announced.

With a plan to open 10 shops, the first Taco Bell in Berlin will open its doors in July or August 2024. Until now, Taco Bell branches in Germany have only been opened on US Army bases in Wiesbaden, Sprangdahelm and Ramstein. Should the Berlin shops be successful, the Tex-Mex chain plans a further expansion to Frankfurt.

Opened by Californian businessman Glen Bell in 1962, Taco Bell already operates shops in seven European countries; the Netherlands, Finland, Spain and Portugal, Cyprus, Romania and the UK.

More doughnuts for Berliners

For dessert, Krispy Kreme will join Dunkin’ Donuts as the second US doughnut giant feeding Berliners.

The company, which was until recently owned by Luxembourg-based German investment firm JAB Holding, is now owned by Turkish İş Holding, which also runs KFC Turkey and Pizza Hut.

The company has yet to announce where in the city it will set up shop and if any more branches are planned in other German cities. The announcement is part of an ongoing Europe-wide expansion for the firm, having launched its first store in Switzerland back in July 2023.
