Deutsches Jazzfestival Frankfurt takes place each year at the end of October in Frankfurt. While you can watch it all at home, why not come out and experience the unique atmosphere for yourself!

The oldest jazz festival in Germany

Established in 1953, Deutsches Jazzfestival Frankfurt is the oldest jazz festival in Germany and not only that, but it is also the oldest continuous jazz festival in the whole world. In the 1980s, Hesse broadcasting corporation (Hessischer Rundfunk) took over the organisation of the festival and since then it has been extremely widely broadcast, reaching wider audiences than ever.

The festival attracts jazz greats from across Germany and from all corners of the world. Meanwhile, the hr-Bigband (the jazz big band of the Hesse broadcasting corporation) has been the festival's resident ensemble for many years. The main festival location is the broadcasting hall of the Hessischer Rundfunk in Frankfurt.

Deutsches Jazzfestival Frankfurt programme 2024

This programme consists of a premiere and four old masters, featuring intricate, winding melodies. In addition, regional jazz specialities are served at five smaller venues in Frankfurt. The 2024 line-up includes Bill Frisell, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Emma Rawicz, Becca Stevens, Jason Moran and Omer Klein with the hr-Bigband.
