The far-right wing is on the rise in Germany. In the first half of the year, there has already been a three-fold increase in the number of far-right rallies held in the federal republic, compared to figures from the same period in 2022.

Germany has seen 110 far-right rallies in 2023

Information requested by the Left Party and published by the German Interior Ministry has revealed that the annual number of far-right rallies in Germany has drastically increased in 2023.

While there were 35 far-right rallies held across the first six months of 2022, there have already been 110 in the first six months of 2023.

Responding to the figures, Left Party member Petra Pau told the AFP news agency that it is “the responsibility of all of us to stop the extremely hostile sentiment against refugees reaching the same levels as in the 90s and 2015”.

The first half of 2023 has also been marked by the AfD’s rise through the polls. During June, the populist party was polling as the second most popular in the country, overtaking Scholz’s SPD when voters were asked which party they would vote for if there were an election held next Sunday.

Far-right music events on the decline

While rallies have been on the rise since restrictions to prevent the spread of coronavirus in Germany were lifted, the number of concerts and music festivals with ties to right-wing groups has been on the decline.

In the first six months of 2023, there have been 71 registered music events connected to the far-right, in comparison to the 89 which took place from January to June of 2022.
