Price hike announced for public transport tickets in Berlin
Berlin-Brandenburg Transport Association has announced that public transport tickets will see a 7,5 percent price increase from 2025.
Berlin public transport tickets set for 2025 price rise
In the new year, the cost of buying a single ticket for the U-Bahn, S-Bahn, Tram or Bus in the AB zones of Berlin, will increase from 3,50 euros to 3,80 euros per journey. The price of a four-journey ticket (4-Fahrten-Karte) will also increase from 10,80 euros to 11,60 euros.
The single ticket hike amounts to a 7,5 percent price increase, which follows a 7 percent rise at the start of 2024. While the Berlin-Brandenburg Transport Association (VBB) has announced the rise, the advisory board at the public transport association has yet to give it the green light.
Will the 29-euro Berlin ticket also get more expensive?
Since July 1, 2024, Berliners have also had the option to buy the monthly subscription 29-euro “Berlin Abo” ticket, which is valid in the AB zones. As of yet, there is no news that the Berlin Abo will see a price rise in the new year.
However, the Deutschlandticket - valid on public and regional transport across the country - will get more expensive come the new year. From January 1, 2025, a Deutschlandticket subscription will cost 58 euros.
The Deutschlandticket Job ticket will be available at a discounted rate of at least 34,30 euros and the Deutschlandticket Semesterticket will cost 29,40 euros per month.
If you purchased your Deutschlandticket through Deutsche Bahn, you must cancel your subscription by the 10th of the current month to avoid paying a subscription into the next month, so you will have to cancel your subscription by December 10 if you want to avoid paying the higher subscription.
Different cancellation rules apply if you bought your ticket through the BVG or another public transport association. You can find out more about the coming changes in our guide to the new Deutschlandticket.
