Hailing from the US, director Corina Rader joined the school in January 2020 when she moved to Germany with her family from Sweden. Her first contact with ISF was actually when she chose to enrol her children there, and discovered that they were hiring for a school director.
She says: “As a parent, I was looking for two things for my kids: a strong and structured curriculum as well as opportunities for them to grow as individuals, follow their passions and gain the life skills to set them up for success in later life. ISF is very impressive in both these areas.”
Academic excellence at ISF
ISF strives to foster academic excellence, the development of important life skills, and overall wellbeing and personal growth. The academic programme at ISF gives very clear learning goals at each step of the way, and students’ progress is closely monitored to make sure that anyone who hasn’t quite understood a concept gets extra help, for example in study groups or with study buddies.
This approach works: the school is known for its outstanding academic outcomes, with graduating students being accepted into the best universities in Germany and around the world.
ISF aims to take each individual child from their current stage of learning and help them reach the best of their potential. The full-day academic programme, which takes students from Kindergarten to Grade 12, allows them to follow the IB Diploma Programme, the AP Programme, or alternatively to take IGCSEs.
This year, the ISF International School Frankfurt Rhein-Main is proud to announce that has been approved to offer the AP Capstone Diploma Program, the only non-US Department of Defence School in the region to offer this esteemed programme.
Developing life skills
But school isn't all about academics; it's also about community, friendship and learning life skills. Outside of the classroom, ISF students benefit from a varied, active and engaging student life, with plenty of opportunities to enable them to learn and enhance other skills like leadership, critical thinking, communication, creativity and teamwork. The Student Life Organisation (SLO), which is at the heart of the school and is run by students for students, offers just that.
Every student can get involved, for example running one of the nine departments, taking on a prefect role for their class, or taking part in some of the huge variety of activities, from drama and dance to the robotics club, the debate team or charity projects. And if there's a club that’s not offered yet, students can help to set one up! ISF encourages students to take responsibility for their school experience as well as their learning.
ISF Sports Academy runs after-school sports and summer sports camps. It helps ISF students learn the fundamentals of a variety of sports from an early age. It also enables ISF students to learn about sportsmanship, trust, respect, fair play, leadership, and team spirit while having great fun. Swimming is especially popular as ISF has its own pool on campus.
