World Cup Events

Three main events are displayed at the Stuttgart German Masters. They are jumping, dressage, and driving.

Jumping

Show jumping is an equestrian event that is part of the classic English riding equestrian events. While the history of show jumping originates from Great Britain, there were many early horse shows held in France, but it was not as popular there. It was first introduced as an official event in the Olympic Games in 1900, but the current format first appeared in 1912.

Dressage

Dressage originally started with military equitation in the late Renaissance era, when the discipline was refined and codified. The Spanish Riding School in Vienna in 1572 was a key point in the development of dressage, and all the movements of the modern event stem from the principles that evolved there. Dressage became an official Olympic sport at the 1912 Stockholm Olympics.

Driving

Driving is the oldest competitive equestrian sport and it continues to thrive into the 21st century. Driving teams of four sit on a vehicle that is drawn by a single horse or pony and face the three trials of dressage, marathon and obstacle driving. Driving was included in the Olympic Games under the umbrella of equestrian sports at the Paris Olympics of 1900.
