Jazz on the Third
Jazz on the Third is a highlight on the city's cultural calendar, celebrating the broad diversity of jazz music with a free festival in the Old Town of Frankfurt that launches on German Unity Day.
Jazz on the Third (Jazz zum Dritten)
Jazz on the Third was born out of the desire to fill Frankfurt with the vibrancy of jazz once a year. Originally launched by a small group of jazz lovers, the event quickly developed into a magnet for jazz fans from near and far, bringing together a mix of renowned and up-and-coming talents from all over the world. The event is characterised by unforgettable performances that unite different people through the universal language of music.
Each year, renowned jazz musicians from around the world perform alongside up-and-coming local talent, providing a unique blend of styles and experiences. The event showcases the full range of jazz, from classic swing and bebop to modern and experimental forms, so there's something for everyone.
In addition to the concerts, there are often opportunities for the audience to interact with the artists, whether through meet-and-greet sessions or spontaneous jam sessions.
The new Old Town anniversary celebrations
In 2024, there is even more to celebrate: alongside 34 years since German reunification, the sixth anniversary of the new Frankfurt Old Town takes centre stage. Six years after its inauguration, it shines in full splendour and becomes the vibrant setting for a special gathering. On the 3rd and 4th of October 2024, Jazz on the Third and the Old Town anniversary combine to create a unique experience that blends tradition and modernity.
As the sounds of jazz wave through the historic centre, a diverse cultural programme unfolds in the quarter. Discover captivating exhibitions, listen to intriguing talks, and join in on entertaining tours.
