Merkel tests negative for coronavirus for third time
In news that will have the whole country breathe a collective sigh of relief, Angela Merkel’s third coronavirus test has come back negative.
Merkel’s third test returns negative
Germany’s chancellor, Angela Merkel, has been self-isolating for just over a week after learning that a doctor who had given her a vaccination had tested positive for coronavirus.
Merkel has had two tests prior to this one, both of which have come back negative. “The chancellor will continue to carry out her official business from her at-home quarantine in the coming days,” said government spokesperson, Steffen Seibert.
Working from home
Merkel has continued to work from her flat in Berlin and has held government meetings at her home via video call. She also released an audio message thanking the people of Germany for adhering to the country’s lockdown measures and avoiding social contact. She also asked for patience and said it was too soon to say when Germany’s lockdown restrictions would be lifted.
According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), just under 62.000 people in Germany have been infected with the virus, 583 of whom have died.
