Berlin fire brigade rescue man stuck down chimney

A very unfortunate man in Berlin has been rescued by firefighters after falling down the chimney of a block of flats. Emergency services and drones were deployed to the unusual scene in Wedding.

Wedding man falls down chimney

A man in the district of Wedding in northern Berlin has been rescued by the fire brigade after falling down the chimney of a block of flats.

How the man fell down the chimney is still unclear. But the chimney crown, about one by one metre in size, was wide enough for the man to fall into.

The emergency services were called after someone else who was living in the block of flats heard cries for help coming from afar.

Fire brigade drill through wall to free trapped man

When the emergency services and police arrived at the scene on Marxstraße they initially thought that someone in one of the flats had been injured. But after venturing onto the roof and shining their torches down the chimney, the worried man’s face was illuminated.

In a cinematic rescue operation, the firefighters drilled a hole in the wall of a flat lower down, digging through to free the man. The whole operation took about an hour after which the man was seen to by paramedics and taken to the hospital.
