Bavarian International School (BIS) in Munich: Changemakers for a new tomorrow

The Bavarian International School (BIS) is more than just a school. It is where students from three to 19 years of age are prepared for the new world of tomorrow. This is where young personalities, global citizens and changemakers develop. For many students, BIS is a home away from home and a family network for life.

“Believe. Inspire. Succeed.”

Across both BIS campuses in Munich-Schwabing and Haimhausen, education for around 1.200 students from more than 60 nations takes place under the philosophy "Believe. Inspire. Succeed."

Approximately 180 teachers from all over the world act as mentors, inspiring students and imparting values and future skills along with academic knowledge. BIS teachers use a highly individualised approach, taking into account the strengths and weaknesses of each global citizen under their care.

Preparing students for the new world of tomorrow

"At BIS, we tailor our students' preparation for the new world of tomorrow, where 85 percent of future jobs are not even known today," says Dr Chrissie Sorenson, head of school and the executive board of Bavarian International School.

In the globalised world, students require outstanding language and communication skills, an intercultural mindset, digital-technological excellence, teamwork and an innovative spirit. BIS offers unique learning conditions with state-of-the-art technological equipment and holistic education far beyond the curriculum.

Around 80 after-school activities per week are complemented by special programmes such as European Environmental School, Model United Nations or The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award. At the BIS City Campus on Leopoldstrasse, after-school care is available until 6pm.

Academic excellence at BIS

BIS is a private, non-profit, all-day school (kindergarten, preschool, primary school, and secondary school) and is one of the best international schools in Germany and Europe.

In the last two years, the BIS graduating class scored 37 or 36 points on average in their final IB Diploma Programme exams, which is equivalent to a 1.8 or 2.0 Abitur grade in the German state system.

These IB scores are much better than the worldwide average. BIS is the only International Baccalaureate (IB) World School in Germany to offer all four IB programmes (PYP, MYP, DP and CP). An IB degree opens doors to the best universities in the world - from Oxford to Harvard to the TUM or LMU in Germany.
