The 2023 edition of Germany’s largest photography festival is about to kick off!

European Month of Photography in Berlin and beyond

Taking place in Berlin every two years since 2004, European Month of Photography is colossal and renowned worldwide. The Berlin section of the festival is part of a wider European partnership with other cities, namely Athens, Bratislava, Budapest, Ljubljana, Luxembourg, Paris and Vienna. The aim of the European Month of Photography is to promote collaboration in photography on a European level.

The month-long event sees museums, cultural institutions, galleries, project spaces, embassies and photography schools across the city open their doors to exhibit mind-blowing photography which has been selected by a panel of experts.

Stroll around large museum photography exhibitions and outdoor exhibitions, as well as solo and group shows in smaller establishments. The exhibitions take place in so many parts of Berlin, from Kreuzberg to Wedding and from Charlottenburg to Spandau.

EMOP Opening Days

Being such a long festival, the focal point is arguably the first four days of EMOP, which set the scene for the month of photography. Panel discussions and social analysis take place with some of the leaders in photography today. Visitors can also expect to immerse themselves in film essays, along with the photography exhibition at this venue. Registration is required in order to secure your place at the EMOP Opening Days.

Photo book talks

Photographers of outstanding renown will be giving talks about their photo books on a few Saturdays during October. Photo books act as a “best of” compilation of a photographer’s work, and are works of art in themselves. Entry to these talks is free, but registration is required in advance. Browse the EMOP website for how to register.
